A Message from the Director:
The Center's Third Year National Science Foundation (NSF) Site Visit (SV) is on April 8-10, 2003 (Tu-Th). This is a critical Renewal Review, taking place over 3 days this year, when the NSF SV Team will evaluate the Center's performance & accomplishments from inception to-date & the Center's plans for the next 5 years.April 8 & April 9 are the primary days when center-wide participation is most important.

April 8th (Tues) is at Boston University
This day's agenda focuses upon the Center's research and contains plenary sessions in the morning, followed by lunch & then selected BU Lab Tours, & Research Poster Sessions with CenSSIS Students & Faculty.

April 9 (Wed) is at Northeastern University
This day's Agenda focuses on the Center's Industrial/Government Collaboration, its Education Program & Students, & selected multi-disciplinary research areas.

• During the day, the NSF SV Team meets with:
     · University Administrators from BU, NU, RPI, & UPRM
    · The CenSSIS Industrial Advisory Board
    · The CenSSIS Student Leadership Council members from
      BU, NU RPI, & UPRM

• There also is a poster session that highlights the
   CenSSIS Education program.

April 10 (Thurs), at NU, is the final day of the Site Visit
The CenSSIS Leadership Team meets with the NSF SV Team in the morning to respond to questions raised the previous day. The NSF SV Team then goes into a closed session for the remainder of the day to write its Site Visit Report.

** A special note to Students
We especially look forward to seeing you, your posters & working with you during Tuesday & Wednesday when we all will be together! Kristin Hicks also has designed a Student Agenda for late Monday (April 7th) that will provide an opportunity for you to meet with one another from all of the universities, CenSSIS faculty, & to hang up your wonderful posters that reflect your hard work! We also are planning a way for you to spend more time with our Industry and Government supporters during the Site Visit.

Please register for the Site Visit no later than 3/31. For planning & expense control purposes, it is important that you indicate which days you will be attending and whether or not you will be able to attend lunch.

I have full confidence that because of all of you, we will have a successful Site Visit. See you on April 8th!

- Michael B. Silevitch, Director, CenSSIS
