Gordon Scholars – The Undergraduate Pipeline

The Gordon Engineering Leadership Scholar Program offers undergraduate engineering students the opportunity to participate in paid research under the guidance of a faculty member. The Leadership Program also provides a structured co-op program that includes mentoring by proven engineering leaders in industry.  These co-op experiences culminate in a senior capstone project that will be market-driven and potentially patentable.

We believe that you have the potential to become part of this next generation of engineering leaders.  The Gordon Scholars program will give us the opportunity to help you develop along this pathway.  This opportunity, coupled with co-op and other experiential learning options, position you well to bring engineering solutions to the global marketplace, whether you choose to pursue a career or graduate studies upon graduation.

As a Gordon Scholar you will:

  • Receive a $1,000 school bookstore voucher

  • Take the High Tech Tools & Toys course for first year students

  • Be eligible to participate in Gordon-CenSSIS research

  • Participate in Gordon-CenSSIS Student Leadership Council Meetings

  • Attend Gordon-CenSSIS Workshops with students from Boston University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez

  • Participate in Educational Outreach Activities in Boston-area middle schools or high schools.

During 2008/2009 Academic year, 18 Freshmen Selected were as Gordon Scholars and:

Previous classes of Gordon Scholars are encouraged to remain involved through attendance at seminars, participation in research projects and by acting as mentors to the current class of Gordon Scholars.  Following the sophomore year, there are opportunities for involvement in structured co-op experiences with mentoring by proven engineering leaders in industry, culminating in senior capstone design projects that will be market-driven and potentially patentable.
